#4 of 45 - OH MY WORD..... WHAT A BURGER! (and I'm not talking from the orange and white striped place)

I haven't posted in a while.  I guess I have been kind of boring but I do have some BIG plans in a couple of months in which several things will be blogged and checked off my 45 list, but for now I have found a little local flavor.  Now, being in the Rockwall area for 10 years people will not (and don't) believe that I have NEVER had a Boots Burger.  There is a lot of hype around our community about these burgers.  These burgers were even talked about in D Magazine.

I have a friend, Darlene, who has lived in Rockwall her entire life - 4th generation Rockwall - she is proud to tell anyone.  What I love is she knows so much rich history of this community.  When we talked about Boots she let me know that back in the 60s  Boots Mooney loved Rockwall Yellowjacket football and fed the football boys regularly.  Then word got out so he fired up a grill in his backyard for other friends.  He later built a business and used the little shed out back which is still in use by his family.  They are open from 11:30-1 or when they run out of burgers - whichever comes first.

I drove up on a beautiful sunny afternoon and was joined by several people.  Some drove as I did and parked.  Others walked from somewhere in the neighborhood.  They don't make a burger until it is ordered and many people call in to cut down on the 15-20 minute wait (which is totally worth it). There are no frills.  They have chips and a drink vending machine--- take your food and be on your way.

When I opened the white paper wrapper the smell of a freshly cooked burger filled my car.  I took one bite and couldn't believe it.  The warm toasty bun with just the right amount of grease was heavenly.  It honestly was the best burger that I remember getting.  The guys that work there are so friendly and could make the first timers feel like they knew them as well as the regulars.  I'm glad that I finally had a chance to try a Boots Burger and I don't know how much of a regular I will be but I will have another one and SOON!
